Art teacher the sites that I frequent have a natural bias towards the Arts, particularly the visual Arts.
1) http://www.metmuseum.org/ is the web site of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY city.  It has 3,500 works in it's on line collection and is a great source for visual examples of a wide variety of Art from all over the world and throughout time.

2) http://www.npg.si.edu/  is the web site of the national portrait gallery of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC this site has 65,000 portraits cross referenced by Artist or Sitter.  It can be invaluable to History teachers as well as Art teachers as a source for visuals of almost anyone of significance in American History, or any Portrait Artist of note.

3)http://www.nga.gov is the site of the National Gallery in Washington DC.  There is an extensive international collection that is available for veiwing along with special sections on present shows and special exhibitions.

4) http://www.artasia.net/  This Art Asia website is a subscriber site however it has a fairly extensive collection of Asian Art cataloged by country, medium, or religion available in it's data base.  Enlarged versions and a more extensive collection is available through a subscription which is about $20.00 a year.  This is an excellent source for a cultural area, particularlyin the Arts that does not get enough attention in a lot of typical Western oriented Art texts.

5)http://www.ilpi.com/artsource/welcome.html  This is a site which lists image collections on line there are some really unusual ones, one in particular that I visited was the  "Art Crimes" site which had a collection of Grafitti Art from many cities from around the world.  This was cross referenced by city and by  location( on railroad cars, on buildings, etc.)  It was interesting to compare styles from city to city and country to country.
