Woodsong Integration Unit - This site contains ideas/thoughts about teaching Woodsong  by Gary Paulsen.  There are links to all academc subjects and relate to the Iditarod, Alaska and dogs/dogsledding.

Teachers' Guild Lesson Plan: The Last Great Race on Earth - Students learn about the history, climate, and geography of Alaska.  They figure out trail mileage, race times, and learn about the Inuits and malamutes as they follow the race.

Science Page - This is a 3 week unit about the Alaskan Iditarod designed for a 4th or 5th grade class.  Students study Alaska and its culture.  Daily activities related to the Iditarod are provided.  A tentative schedule of assignments helps you to get started.
