Topic- Educating Yourself About Great Britain
Grade Level- 4th and 5th
Assumptions- It is assumed that the children will have very little knowledge about Great Britain with the exception of finding it on a map.
Topics to be Covered- Brief overview of its History, Geographical location, the capitals and other important cities, population, and governmental system.
Required resources- a pencil, notebook, crayons or markers, several handouts, and a map of Europe.
Objectives- Students will be able to locate England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland on a map and be able to identify its major cities. Students will also be able to explain how Great Britain came to be along with battles that have taken place along the way. They will have general knowledge about the population and its current form of government.
Tentative Time- Lesson 1- Its location, surrounding areas, and population
Lesson 2- The History
Lesson 3- About England
Lesson 4- About Scotland
Lesson 5- About Wales and Northern Ireland
Lesson 6- Form of Government
Lesson 7- Closure and final comments
Assessment- There will be hand-outs of maps and general questions about Great Britain. There will be cooperative learning projects the students will also be involved in.
