Eastern Connecticut State University, the state’s public liberal arts university serving approximately 5000 students, offers a wide range of undergraduate majors in the arts and sciences and professional studies, as well as selected graduate programs. Located in historic Windham County in the heart of eastern Connecticut, the University is midway between New York City and Boston and only a short drive from Hartford, the state capital.

Department: Biology
Position: Part-time instructors for non-majors biology courses in human biology.
Qualifications: A master’s degree in biology. Must be able to teach lecture and laboratory courses in human biology as part of the liberal arts program. Courses may be scheduled during day time, evening, or on Saturdays. Preferred Qualifications: Doctorate or ABD in Biology. Experience teaching human biology at the university level.

Position: Full-time, temporary, one-year position, Assisant Professor/Instructor in Biology/Ecology, starting Fall 2008
Qualifications: PhD or PhD candidate preferred; candidates with MS degree considered. Successful candidate to teach majors introductory ecology lecture and laboratory courses; possibility to instruct non-majors ecology and human biology courses. Opportunity to teach upper level class in Spring 2009; preference for ecology or closely related field, including phycology and mycology.

Department: Environmental Earth Science
Position: Assistant Professor/Instructor – Sustainable Energy Studies, one-year full time, non-tenure track Faculty.
Qualifications: Master’s or Ph.D. degree in science or education with an undergraduate degree in physics, engineering, geoscience, or a related field. Experience in teaching at the college level preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of renewable energy systems, national and global energy issues, climate change science and related environmental issues.
Position Description: one yar, non-tenure track position, teaching courses in sustainable energy and global climate change; advising students in the sustainable energy studies program; supervising students on research and internship projects; participation in course development projects; participation in campus and community outreach programs to develop greater knowledge of and interest in sustainability among faculty, staff, and the general public; cooperation with the Institute of Sustainable Energy; assistance in developing grants for research and program development .

Position: Assistant/Associate Professor – Early Childhood Education
Qualifications: Earned doctorate in early childhood education, child development, or related area.
ABD near completion considered. Expertise is preferred in the areas of early childhood foundations, curriculum, teaching, and early childhood special education; expertise in infant/toddler early care and education a plus. At least three years of experience working with young children and families in professional settings is required. Evidence of scholarship in early childhood education and development is required.
Position Description: Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in early childhood education and supervising practicum students and student teachers. The successful candidate will pursue an active research agenda, advise students, and provide service to the new Child and Family Development Resource Center.

Position: Assistant Professor – Elementary Education
Qualifications: Earned doctorate in elementary education, child development, curriculum development, or related area. ABD near completion considered. Expertise is preferred in the areas of elementary education, educational foundations, child and adolescent development, curriculum development, and elementary classroom teaching practices. A strong background in elementary education and assessment, and experience in college teaching, as well as at least three (3) years as a teacher in K-6 grade levels, is required.
Position Description: Teaching courses in child development and elementary education curriculum and instruction; supervising clinical experiences and student teaching; and developing professional development school relationships. The successful candidate will provide leadership for the elementary education certification undergraduate and graduate programs, including serving as the key faculty member for assessment and program development for NCATE and national accreditation in elementary education.

Eastern Connecticut State University invites applications for the following vacancy in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics:
Head Women’s Volleyball Coach/Assistant Sports Information Director
Full-time Non Instructional Faculty appointment (ten month) begins August 2008. Responsibilities: Primary Assignment: All aspects of coaching and program development for a highly competitive women’s volleyball team within institutional, conference and NCAA Division III regulations, inclusive of scheduling, budget management, fundraising, and recruitment and retention of student-athletes. Secondary Assignment: Assist the Sports Information Director in aspects of the college’s sports information office to include the writing of game summaries and press releases; update website; assist in coordination of home events in regards to media operations, statistics and videotaping; and in the preparation of publications. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. Evidence of successful experience as a head coach or substantial assistant experience in volleyball at the collegiate level as well as evidence of strong recruitment of student-athletes within institutional guidelines. Understanding of statistical needs of a variety of sports, writing skills, computer skills, working knowledge and familiarity with “StatCrew” software helpful. Compensation is competitive and dependent upon qualifications with an excellent benefits package.
