The following are the recommended course sequences for Psychology Majors.

I: General Psychology Curriculum - Recommended Course Sequence
First year:

  • PSY 100 General Psycholog
  • PSY 200 level courses from the Foundations or Developmental Courses (see catalog)
  • GER Courses - Mathematics GER Courses should be taken during the first year.

 

Second year:

  • PSY 217 Research Methods I (Take after or at same time as 227)
  • PSY 227 Behavioral Science Statistics (Take before or at same time as 217)
  • PSY 200 level courses from the Foundations or Developmental Courses (see catalog)
  • GER Courses
  • Other Electives
  •  Complete Writing Compentency Requirement* - Need to complete BEFORE Research Methods II,

 

Third year:

  • PSY 327 Research Methods II
  • PSY 200-300 level courses from the Foundations, Developmental,
  • Biological or Advanced Courses (see catalog)

Fourth year:

  • PSY 419 History & Systems of Psychology
  • PSY 300-400 course from: Foundations, Developmental, Biological or Advanced Courses

II: Psychology of Children and Youth - Recommended Sequence

First year:

* Writing Competency Requirement Information

*Pass Stage 2 of Writing Competency General Education Requirement.

After you pass ENG 100 or ENG 100P, you are required to demonstrate your continuing competency in writing (WRT 050 on your degree evaluation) in one of 3 ways:

              a. Submitting a portfolio of papers written for 200- or 300- level courses

              b. Passing the Writing Competency exam

              c. Passing ART 225, ENG 200, ENG 203, HIS 200, HON 200 or PSC 210 with a

              “B” better or receiving Writing Competency credit in BIO 221 or BIO 234
