CHESTERTON WINDMILL - You can easily see why some people think the Newport Tower was a Windmill when you look at photos of this unique building in Warwickshire, UK. But the Chesterton Mill was built as an Observatory in 1632 & converted to grinding grain later. NB - The last paragraph on the history page says the Newport Tower is a copy of the Chesterton Tower
ST.BRAVO (or St.Baaf's Abdij) - Benedictine Abby contains on its extensive grounds this "Lavatorium" (washing facility) believed to have been built around 1160AD. It is approximately the same size as the Newport Tower. Access to a 2nd floor room (Reliquary) is through a small high silled doorway in the adjoining Dormitory
Varnhems
klosterkyrka - Another example of a 12thC octagonal stone tower
here? Earl Syversen, in his book "Norse Runic Inscriptions"
(Vine Hill Press, 1979) describes this place as having "... another good
example".
